UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed Bangladesh Army's Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan in the post of Force Commander for UN peacekeeping missions in West Sahara. Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan will replace Major General Zia-Ur-Rehman of Pakistan Army, according to a press release from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan earlier on was deployed in UN peacekeeping missions in Somalia and Congo. Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan was commissioned in Bangladesh Army from Bangladesh Military Academy in 1988. At present he is working as a General Officer Commanding in an infantry division.
Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan successfully completed Masters in Defence Studies from National University and Masters in Development Studies from Dhaka University. He is competent in Bengali, English and French languages. Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan is married to Rashida Ahsan. The couple is blessed with one son and one daughter.
