Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has called upon everyone to come up with stern efforts to resist land-grabbers. He blamed land-grabbers for occupying lakes and playgrounds of Dhaka city. "Whenever any step is taken against the land-grabbers, they manage everything with money" Atiqul Islam complained. Mayor Atiqul Islam made the above remarks on Sunday during the inaugural program of Graffiti Art Work and a plantation program in the capital's Mirpur. Atiqul Islam said, "We have passed 52 years since independence. We have a lot of pledges. At the same time we have many allegations. We have grievances against the Pakistanis. Similarly, we have complaints against land-grabbers. Land-grabbers are responsible for pollutions. Whenever we want to do something, land-grabbers manage the situation with money."
Even the Prime Minister wants playgrounds and lakes to remain free of occupation, Atiqul Islam further said. The Prime Minister wants to do a great deal of beneficial work but sometimes authentic information does not go to her, Atiqul Islam stated. The Prime Minister's Special Assistant Barrister Biplob Barua, DNCC Zone 2 Executive Officer Ziaur Rahman, Metlife Bangladesh Chief Executive Officer Ali Ahmed and some other dignitaries were present on the occasion among others.
