Speakers at a discussion program have laid emphasis on portraying the true history of the Liberation War of 1971 to the new generation. The discussion program was held in the National Press Club on Monday with special reference to the Mujibnagar Government which was formed on 17 April 1971. It was organized by Sampreety Bangladesh.

The discussants said that 17 April 1971 is an unforgettable day. The Mujibnagar Government was comprehensively transmitted and published in the global media during that time and it gathered support from the whole world in favour of Bangladesh's independence. The discussants further said that attempts are still on to distort the history of the Liberation War. They called upon everyone to remain alert so that anti-liberation quarters cannot demotivate youths.

The Prime Minister's Energy Adviser Dr. Toufique-E-Elahi Choudhury said as the chief guest, "It is an obligation to make references to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 7 March speech while talking about Mujibnagar Government. Mujibnagar Government was the recognition for the people of Bangladesh who wanted independence back then."

Dr. Toufique-E-Elahi Choudhury further said that the role of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi should be particularly spotlighted in any discourse on Bangladesh's independence. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a great leaning towards common people by means of which Bangabandhu became the greatest ever Bengali leader in the nation's history.

Shwapan Bhattacharjee, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives said that all the patriotic people of Bangladesh should work in a united way to further drive the country forward.

Chairman of The Asian Age Shoeb Chowdhury paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the members of the Mujibnagar Government at the beginning of his speech. Shoeb Chowdhury said that the autocratic governments that came to power in Bangladesh after 1975 erased the declaration of the Mujibnagar Government from the constitution. The Mujibnagar Government adopted equity, rule of law, justice and harmony as their principal charters, Shoeb Chowdhury stated. He remarked that Mujibnagar Government was not properly focused on in the independence golden jubilee celebrations. Mujibnagar Government deserves to be observed at the state-level so that its history is appropriately conveyed to everyone. Mujibnagar Government was one of the pillars of Bangladesh's struggle for liberation, Shoeb Chowdhury commented.

Moreover, Shoeb Chowdhury applauded figures like Dr. Toufique-E-Elahi for playing a vital role in the launching of the Mujibnagar Government during 1971 despite a lot of hurdles.

Shoeb Chowdhury also appreciated Sampreety Bangladesh Convener Pijush Bandopaddhay for organizing such a time-befitting program.
The discussion program was presided over by Sampreety Bangladesh Convener and cultural luminary Pijush Bandopaddhay. It was moderated by Sampreety Bangladesh Member Secretary Professor Dr. Mamun Al Mahtab Shwapnil.

Major General (Retd) Mohammad Ali Shikder and former Vice Chancellor of Islamic University Dr. Rashid Askari spoke on the occasion among others.
