The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Affairs has welcomed the progress with the implementation of Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Treaty (CHTPT).The report of the above UN forum has focused on this matter during their session which continued from 17 to 28 April 2023. Bangladesh Permanent Mission in UN conveyed this information.
The Bangladesh delegates portrayed different aspects of the implementation of the CHTPT while the UN session was going on. Civil society members representing ethnic minorities joined different meetings of the forum. The forum appreciated Bangladesh's efforts to execute the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Treaty. The UN forum urged Bangladesh to work more seriously for the full materialization of the peace agreement. Bangladesh Permanent Mission in the UN has stated that the Bangladesh government is working sincerely for the rights and privileges of all ethnic groups and indigenous tribes all over Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in light of the peace accord signed in 1997.
Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Mohammad Abdul Muhith said, "The implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Treaty is an integral part of the Bangladesh government's initiative to make peace prevail across Bangladesh."
