Former Bangladesh captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy has been re-elected as the President while Debabrata Paul was also re-elected as the general secretary of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) for the next four years. The AGM of CWAB was held on Saturday at Mirpur Sher Bangla Cricket Stadium amid festivity with the national team cricketers and officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Debabrata Pal have been in charge of the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) since 2014. President Durjoy, during the annual general meeting (AGM) of CWAB on Saturday, said he is ready to hand over the leadership to someone new. But no one submitted their names to Commissioner Mahbub Anam after calling for nominations several times. "No one is willing to take responsibility. Nobody wants to be the captain. It is unfortunate," Mahbub Anam said.
Later, BCB Director and Media Committee Chairman Tanveer Ahmed Tito, who was in the role of coordinator of the AGM, proposed the names of the previous two organizers - Naimur Rahman Durjoy and Debabrata Pal. They will choose the remaining members of the committee within the next two months.
"Our work will remain the same. But we will add a new addition to it. We have raised some requests and demands toward the honourable board president. Which are related to the interests of the cricketers. We aim to implement them," said Durjoy during the AGM.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon also invited candidates for these two posts from among the present and former cricketers present during his speech. No one responded to his call.
He also urged the cricket fraternity to give them enough amount of time for the welfare of the organization, "A lot of time is required in all these places. These organizations are difficult to run if time is not given. So I would say that those who are there should give them enough time," said Papon. Meanwhile, CWAB has also decided to include women cricketers in the organisation. Henceforth women cricketers will get all the same facilities as CWAB members like male cricketers.
The AGM and the Council were attended by several women cricketers including the captain of the women's team Nigar Sultana Jyoti, veteran Salma Khatun and many more.
