Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained a drug trader with 11 kilograms of hemp from Chandpur Launch Ghat area early hours on Friday.
The detainee has been identified as Md Forhad, 19, a resident of Murapara village under Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Police Station. Lieutenant Commander Abdur Rahman, media officer at coast guard headquarters, confirmed the matter on Friday.
He said, acting on a tip-off, a coast guard team from BCG Station Chandpur led by Mashad Uddin Nahian conducted a special operation at Chandpur Launch Ghat area early hours on Friday. During the drive, coast guard personnel detained a drug trader with 6 kilograms of hemp. The arrested person with the seized hemp was handed over to Chandpur Model Police Station for taking further actions.
Later, coast guard personnel conducted a raid at the south side of Hingalganj river in Shilokhali under Shyamnagar Police Station of Satkhira. When the movement of two people was found suspicious, the coast guard members signaled them to stop. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, they left the place leaving a bag wrapped with polythene. Later, a total of about 5 kilograms of hemp was recovered from the bag.
The seized hemp was handed over to Shyamnagar Police Station, the media officer added.
