Mild heatwave likely to continue


Mild heatwave is sweeping over four places of the country and it may continue and spread in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am today, said a weather forecast issued by the Bangladesh Metrology Department (BMD) here today.

"Mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Gopalgonj, Rajshahi and Pabna and it may continue," said the BMD forecast.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; at a few places over Dhaka and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country," it added.

However, day temperature may rise slightly over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country. Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

Country's maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 39.0 degrees Celsius at Rajshahi, while today's minimum temperature 21.9 degrees Celsius was recorded at Gopalgonj.

A trough of low lies over India's West Bengal to north Bay across southwestern part of Bangladesh.

The highest rainfall was recorded 56mm at Rajarhat in the last 24 hours till 6am today.

The sun sets at 6:47pm today and rises at 5:11am tomorrow in the capital.
