Woman dies after childbirth due to doctor's negligence in Ashuganj
Aklima Akter, a 21-year mother, died due to the alleged negligence of doctors at Noor Medical Center located at Station Road area in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria on Sunday night.
The angered relatives of the deceased besieged the hospital on Monday (July 3) morning claiming the death as murder. Later, the matter was settled with the mediation of local residents for Tk 2 lakh.
Taslima, the older sister of the deceased, brought Aklima, wife of Al Amin Sarkar of Charchartala village of Ashuganj Upazila. to Noor Medical Center around 5 pm when she had labor pains. Her sister's father-in-law Shawkat Sarkar was with her. Shahan Ara Begum, the doctor on duty there, told them that it is possible to deliver a normal baby without a caesarean. Then Aklima gave birth to a baby girl around seven in the evening.

Shawkat Sarkar, father-in-law of the deceased said, without informing us, a surgery was performed into the private parts without cesarean section through the doctor. When the health condition deteriorated, Aklima was sent to Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital in an ambulance. Later, the doctor on duty in Brahmanbaria Medical College Hospital declared her dead.
In this regard, Dr Abdullah Al Mahmud Nazrul, the owner of Noor Medical Center, said, "We try to have a normal delivery after consulting with the patient's relatives. There was no negligence in the treatment."
However, the bleeding could not be stopped and she was sent to Brahmanbaria for better treatment, he said.
While asking about the settlement amount, he said, "I donated it as the family is helpless."
In this regard, Ekram Ullah, civil surgeon of the district, said, "I have just come to know about this. Necessary action will be taken if any complaint is made."
