Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained a man with 5 kilograms of hemp from Rahmat Khal Ferry Ghat area of Meghna river under Sadar police station in Lakshmipur early hours on Tuesday.
The detainee has been identified as Himangshu Chandra Baidya, 44, a resident of Tulagaon village under Debidwar upazila of Cumilla district.
Lieutenant Comm-ander Abdur Rahman, media officer at coast guard headquarters, confirmed the matter on Tuesday noon.
He said, acting on a tip-off, a coast guard team from BCG Station Lakshmipur conducted a special operation at Rahmat Khal Ferry Ghat area of Meghna river early hours on Tuesday. During the drive, coast guard personnel detained a man with 5 kilograms of hemp.
The arrested person with the seized hemp was handed over to Chandpur Model Police Station for taking further actions, the media officer added.
