AL candidate Mohiuddin Bachchu wins Chattogram-10 by-polls
 
Awami League-nominated candidate Mohiuddin Bachchu was unofficially declared the winner in the by-election to the Chittagong-10 constituency held on Sunday.Mohiuddin Bachchu bagged 52,923 votes while his nearest rival Jatiya Party candidate Md Shamsul Alam secured 1,572 votes. The voter turnout was 11.7%. Chittagong-10 constituency Returning Officer and Chittagong Regional Election Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman announced the result.  While expressing his feelings immediately after the announcement of the polls result, Mohiuddin Bachchu, who was present at the gymnasium, told the reporters: "I have been declared the winner unofficially by the Election Commission. I definitely have a feeling of victory. We who are Awami League leaders do not consider whether it is for a short time or long time. The time which I will get, to be dedicated for the welfare of the people. That's what we believe."

"I have the support of my party behind this victory. If not, I would not get so many votes. I was a party worker before becoming a candidate. I will talk to the party and decide before expressing the excitement of satisfaction."

Voting was held in the Chittagong-10 (Doublemooring, Pahartali and Halishahar) by-election from 8am till 4pm on Sunday through EVMs at 1,261 booths of 156 polling stations.Six candidates contested the election.

They are Awami League candidate Mohiuddin Bachchu (boat symbol), independent candidate Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan (rocket symbol), Jatiya Party candidate Md Shamsul Alam (plough symbol), grassroots BNP's Deepak Kumar Palit (golden fibre symbol), Mohammad Arman Ali (balloon) and Bangladesh Sangskritik Mukti Jote's Rashid Mia (stick symbol).
