Another good news for the national and international acclaimed actor-filmmaker Toukir Ahmed. He won the title of best director at the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival for his upcoming film 'Oggatonama (The Unnamed)'. This was the fifth edition of the festival that took place from September 9-11. The story of the film 'Oggatonama' portrays the tragic life of expatriate workers and their family, who travelled to abroad to earn their livelihood. The central character, a poor farmer from a remote Bangladeshi village facing challenges at every step of this storyline, sometime from the bureaucracy, sometime from his peers and finally from the traditional mindset after receiving the dead body of an 'Oggatonama' - the unnamed. Circumstances challenged him to face a situation involved the death news of his son who was an expatriate, working in the Middle East as an unskilled labor.
About winning the award, Toukir Ahmed said, "Receiving award is always a pleasure. Recognition at the international level brings pride as I am representing Bangladesh. I feel honored."At the closing event of the festival, guests paid tribute to the late ghazal singer Jagjit Singh. Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah won the best actor award for his outstanding performance in 'Waiting' film. Deepa Mehta received special recognition for her outstanding contribution in the international film.
Earlier this month, the actor-filmmaker won the title of best director for his latest film 'Oggatonama' at the Kosovo Film Festival. He also won best screenwriter award at the festival. After this festival, 'Oggatonama' will participate in another festival, Seattle South Asian Film Festival. The festival will take place from October 14-23. Before this festival, the movie will join Religion Today Film Festival at Italy's Trento which will take place from October 7-17. The film 'Oggatonama' or 'The Unnamed' was released on August 19. Produced under Impress Telefilms, the film 'Oggatonama' saw its world premiere at Marche du Film, the business counterpart of the 69 Cannes Film Festival on May 17. Besides, the film won a special jury mention at the Gulf of Naples Independent Film Festival on May 21.
In the film Mosharraf Karim has played the lead role opposite glamorous actress Nipun. The other important casts of the film includes, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Abul Hayat, Shatabdi Wadud, Shahed Sarif Khan and Fazlur Rahman Babu. Besides directing the film, Tauquir Ahmed has the credit to write story, screenplay and dialogue for the film.
