Tigers to leave Dhaka on August 27

Tigers to leave Dhaka on August 27

Bangladesh national cricket team is all set to depart from Colombo on August 27 to play the upcoming ACC Asia Cup, a BCB source confirmed the media on Thursday.

However, Tigers have no possibility to play any practice game ahead of the prestigious tournament.
"There is no opportunity to play any preparation matches before the Asia Cup in the plan so far. Very compact practice time. Bangladesh team will go to Colombo on August 27 for the Asia Cup. Then New Zealand will come to play in the country. Then there are two preparation matches to be played before the World Cup. So due to our very busy schedule, we have no plans to play any extra warm-up matches." BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

"Since the World Cup is being held in the subcontinent and the previous T20 World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand, we had an understanding with New Zealand cricket board then. You know that before that World Cup, we played the Tri-nation series there with Pakistan. As a continuation of that, we are giving the players the opportunity to play three ODIs. It was like a promise." He added.
Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh's 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023, beginning 30 August.

Shakib was recently named the new Bangladesh captain after Tamim Iqbal stepped down from the post.
Bangladesh have included uncapped opener Tanzid Tamim in their squad, while batter Shamim Hossain receives his maiden ODI call-up.
22-year-old Tanzid, who scored three half-centuries in the Emerging Asia Cup, has been rewarded for his consistent performances and in the absence of Tamim Iqbal provides Bangladesh with an opening option.

Meanwhile, Shamim, who has featured fairly regularly in T20Is since his debut in July 2021 will now get a chance to showcase his skills in the 50-over format.

All-rounder Mahedi Hasan makes a comeback after being out of the ODI set-up since March 2021.
Veteran batter Mahmudullah continues to be out of contention along with Taijul Islam and Rony Talukdar, who were part of the ODI series against Afghanistan last month but have also been left out.

However, Taijul has been named the standby players' list alongside Saif Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Bangladesh will play opening game their opening game of the Asia Cup on 31 August against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das, Tanjid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mamhud, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Shamim Hossain, Afif Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Mohammad Naim Standby - Taijul Islam, Saif Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib .
