Man to die for killing girl in Joypurhat

 
A Joypurhat court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing a 16-year-old girl in Akkelpur upazila of the district in 2009.
Additional District and Session Judge Abbas Uddin handed down the verdict convicting Sajjadul Islam, son of Sahadul, of Awalgari Paschimpara village under Akkelpur upazila of the district.

The court also fined Tk 50,000 to the young man for the same crime.Uday Singh, assistant public prosecutor of Joypurhat court, confirmed the matter.

According to the prosecution, the accused Sajjadul had a feud with Abdul Jalil over a piece of land. Later, the accused built a love affair with Rupali, daughter of Abdul Jalil. At one stage, a disagreement was taken place between them. On February 20 in 2009, Sajjadul called Rupali to a riverside and beaten to death after being tied up. Later, he left the place leaving her there.

On the next day, police recovered the victim's body. The victim's father lodged a case in this connection with Akkelpur police station on May 5 of the same year.

Testifying witnesses and evidences, the court gave the order in presence of the convict Sajjadul Islam.
