Karam Festival begins in Naogaon

Karam Festival began through 'dal puja' on Saturday with the slogan--'Land is our life, tradition is our identity'. Naogaon Police Super Rasidul Haque was present at the opening ceremony as the chief guest.National Ethnic Council Central Committee President Rabindranath Soren presided over the function.
The council organized the program in the Natsal area of Mohadebpur upazila in Naogaon. The speakers have said Land Commission will be established immediately for plain living of ethnic people and Tk 1 crore budget will be allocated for their development. According to the religious belief of the ethnic people, trees save them from several disasters.
They are used to observing this festival for a long time. They celebrate it at moonlit night of Udit moon (full moon) in Bangla Bhadra month every year. They observe it all day long and organize seminar, discussion meeting, dance competition etc. on the next day. National Ethnic Council General Secretary Sobin Munda, former poet Ataul Haque Siddique, Ethnic Council adviser Joynul Abedin Mukul, Mohadebpur thana OC Saber Reza Ahmed Swapon, among others, spoke on the occasion.
