Dhaka Ahsania Mission commemorates road crash victims

Dhaka Ahsania Mission lit candles and marched in the memory of those killed in road accident as the part of observing the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims-2023. Candles were lit on the main road in front of ASA Tower at Shyamoli in the capital on Sunday evening. The officials of Ahsania Mission Health sector, representatives of member organizations of Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh participated in the procession and candles lighting anddemanded for a comprehensive road safety law to protect the road users.

Moreover, speakers referred to the Road Transport Act-2018 and said it is basically the Motor Vehicles Act and it is using in connection with licensing, route permit and fitness as well as fines have been prioritized regarding violation of the Law. However, the safety of road users is neglected through this Law, speakers added and further mentioned that even implementing this law is not getting the expected results.

A separate comprehensive road safety law is extremely needed with a view to implement the Prime Minister's directives, achieve the SDG targets and to carry out the global decade of action for road crashes, speakers urged. Not only that but also the law would be formulated and implemented in the light of safe system approach announced by the United Nations, speakers however demanded.
