Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has said it's a constitutional duty of every citizen, public representatives and police to resist the culprits who want to obstacle people's voting rights.
He made the remarks at the Rajarbagh Police Lines auditorium on Monday after a views exchange meeting on law and order with Dhaka North and South city Corporation Councilors. Habibur Rahman further said, ''There is no specific threat or possibility of any sabotage during the polls. Councilors also informed me that people in their localities are ready to cast their votes and they are hopeful of highest voters' turnout.''
The police commissioner went on to say that 172 councilors of 129 wards under the Dhaka North and South City Corporations participated in yesterday's view exchange meeting and they apprised of law and order situation in their areas.
Councilors are ready to cooperate with law enforcers in connection with preventing the culprits who are responsible for arson attacks, sabotage and terrorist activities, the Police Commissioner added. Replying to a query DMP Commissioner said Police are able to evict hawkers from the streets but we do that to keep in mind their rehabilitation.DMP Additional Police Commissioners AKM Hafiz Akter and Dr. Mahid Uddin as well as other high officials were present at that time.
