Woman kills husband by drowning in river water in Bhuapur

A woman allegedly killed her husband by drowning in river water with the help of her paramour in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail on Wednesday.

Police recovered the body of Nayeem Hossain, 20, son of Shafiqul Islam Dudu of Maijbari village under Falda union, from Char Dhakaitabandha area of Jamuna river yesterday morning.  

According to family members and local people, Nayeem Hossain and Reshmi fell in love three months ago and got married without the consent of their family. On December 19, Nayeem went to his father-in-law's house with his wife Reshmi.

There, Nayeem takes Reshmi out for a walk in the afternoon. At night, Reshmi went home and told that her husband had left. Since then, Nayeem couldn't be traced out.

Shafiqul Islam Dudu, father of the deceased, on Tuesday afternoon informed the matter to Bhuapur police station. Later, the police went to Ramail and arrested Reshmi. When the police interrogated Reshmi, she confessed to killing her husband. Later, according to the information received from Reshmi, the alleged lover Masud, 35, son of Abdul Hai of Char Barua village under Falda union, was arrested from Gopalpur. On basis of their information, the police later recovered the body from Char Dhakaitabandha area of Jamuna river.

Md Ahsan Ullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhuapur police station, said, "Reshmi took her husband Nayeem to her father's house and drowned him in the river with the help of her lover. Later, the body was covered with sand and disappeared."

"The arrestees have been sent to the court in the morning. The body was sent to Tangail for autopsy", the OC added.
