Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam was ssatisfied with his performance throughout 2023 but he was disappointed with the team's overall performence in 2023

The Tigers lost three home ODI series and finished eighth in the ICC World Cup held in India. However, the team ended the year on a high note by sealing their first-ever ODI and T20 wins in New Zealand.

Shoriful played a key role in those victories by taking three wickets each in the ODI and T20 victories, both of which took place in Napier. He was djudged the player of the series in 3 match T20 series.

However, Shoriful believes that the team could have done better collectively, making the overall achievement more satisfying.
"Alhamdulillah, I had a very good year. But if we could've done a bit better as a team, that would've felt even better," Shoriful told the media after reaching home on Tuesday.

"It was a good series. The T20 series was going our way. If it hadn't rained, we would've won the second match," he added.
Shoriful ended with 52 wickets in 2023 in 32 innings, with an average of 21.42 and a strike rate of 25.5, which is the best for Bangladesh in a year across formats among those who picked up at least 50 wickets.

However, Bangladesh are all set to have their busiest year in Test cricket in 2024 as they will play as many as 14 matches in the coming 12 months.
The highest number of matches in Test format they played in 2022 when they appeared in 10 Tests. This year they will play four more matches than the previous highest. Last year, they played only four red-ball matches.

Among the 14 matches, the Tigers will play six at home and the rest eight in away.
Apart from Test matches, Bangladesh will also play the T20 World Cup, slated to be held in June in the United States of America (USA) and West Indies. So to prepare for the tournament, they will play a good number of T20 matches also.

Bangladesh players will start the year with Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20, set to start on January 19. Thereafter, they will host Sri Lanka in March for two Tests, three ODIs and three T20 matches. Just after Sri Lanka's departure from Bangladesh, Zimbabwe will arrive to play five T20 matches and two Tests.

After that, Bangladesh will prepare for the T20 World Cup. Just after the event, they will visit Afghanistan (which play their home matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or India), Pakistan and India before touring West Indies at the end of this year. In between South Africa will tour Bangladesh.
