Hefazat-e-Islam opposes enacting transgender rights law

Hefazat-e-Islam has strongly demanded to the Bangladesh government to keep away from enacting laws to protect the rights of transgender people. Hefazat Amir Allama Shah Muhibbulah Babunagari and Secretary General Allama Shaikh Sajidur Rahman put forward this demand to the government through a statement issued on Friday.

Hefazat leaders have stated that transgender and eunuchs are not the same. People cannot change their gender through operations or just thinking about the matter, Hefazat leaders have said. One cannot become a woman from a man or become a man from a woman just if he or she wants to do so, Hefazat leaders have pointed out in their statement.

Hefazat leaders have claimed that if the above law is made it will legalize adultery and homosexuality in Bangladesh. It will spoil moral principles and discipline in the society as well as in the state, according to Hefazat leaders. It would be also a violation of the Shariah and such laws should never be enacted in a Muslim country, Hefazat leaders have asserted.
