Shakib to skip Rangpur's captaincy, Mashrafe remains Sylhet's skipper

Wicketkeepr Nurul Hasan Sohan is all set to lead Rangpur Riders in the upcoming Bangladesh Premiar League (BPL) instead of Shakib Al Hasan, Rangpur Riders' franchise owner IshtiaqueSadeque stated.

Shakib al Hasan won't take up the captaincy role in this year's BPL after he suffered an eye problem during the World Cup. Therefore Shakib decides to hand captancy to Sohan in the upcoming BPL.

"We received the same update as in Bangladesh after the Angiogram was done in London. Hopefully there won't be any major changes. Rest, he was advised to live a stress-free life. But he will arrive home by 18th InnshAllah," said Ishtiaque.

"Initially we thought about Shakib Al Hasan to take the captaincy role. However, Shakib has told us that he does not want to take the pressure of captaincy. So we announced Nurul Hasan Sohan as our captain for BPL," he added. Nurul Hasan Sohan led Rangpur Riders to the playoffs in the last edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Shakib is now in London to see an ophthalmologist for his recurring eye problem.

Shakib's franchise Rangpur Riders, however, have arranged for the meeting with an ophthalmologist in London as the eyesight problem for the all-rounder lingers. He is expected to be back before the start of the BPL, which begins on January 19. Shakib was seen wearing glasses during the net session at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in the city on last Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sylhet Strikers announced on Wednesday that Mashrafe bin Mortaza will remain their captain as Mohmmad Mithun will be the vice-captain of the team.

On Wednesday, a photo session was held for the captains of the seven teams of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Mohammad Mithun represented the Sylhet Sixers. Many assumed that he might be the captain for this season.
Mashrafe has been suffering from an injury and the former captain also was absent from cricketing action due to his busy schedule in the national election.

Due to his participation in the national elections, he couldn't undergo treatment for the injury.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is the vice-captain of Bangladesh national team, is also in the team but Sylhet named Mashrafe to lead their side.
