BGB seized smuggled goods worth more than 2288 crore taka in 2023

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods of more than 2288 crore 66 lakh taka during 2023 from January to December.

The seized goods include gold, silver, sarees, three pieces, readymade garments, cosmetics, timber, tea, coal, stones, imitation ornaments, touchstone statues, current fishing nets, pesticides, turtle bones, trucks, covered vans, private cars, microbuses, pickups, CNG auto rickshaws, easy bikes, motorcycles etcetera. Pistols, rifles, revolvers, guns, bullets, magazines, mortar shells, cocktails, gunpowder, sulphur and explosives also were seized by BGB during the above period.

BGB also seized narcotics including yaba tablets, crystal math ice, phensedyl, foreign liquor, local wine, hashish, heroin, cocaine and so on during 2023.
BGB detained 2367 people on charges of smuggling during 2023. Moreover, BGB nabbed 599 Bangladeshis, 77 Indian citizens and 857 Myanmar nationals during 2023 for illegally crossing borders and legal actions were taken against them.
