Actor Ahmed Rubel passes away

Renowned actor Ahmed Reza Rubel passed away on Wednesday evening at the age of 56. The veteran actor fell ill upon arriving at Star Cineplex in Dhaka's Bashundhara City shopping complex for the premiere of his latest movie Peyarar Subash'.

He died of a heart attack at the capital's Square Hospitals Ltd around 6 pm, film director Nurul Alam Atiq confirmed the news to the media. After reaching the Bashundhara City Complex in Panthapath, the actor fell unconscious in the shopping mall's parking lot.

At that time, he was rushed to the hospital, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead. The abrupt demise of the critically acclaimed actor stunned both the entertainment industry and his admirers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of noted actor Ahmed Reza Rubel. In a message of condolence, she prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Born at Rajarampur in Chapainawabganj on May 3, 1968, Rubel grew up in Dhaka and began his career as an actor with renowned playwright Selim Al Deen's Dhaka Theatre. Rubel debuted through the group's 'Haathodai'.

He made TV debut through Gias Uddin Selim's 'Swapnajatra', aired by Ekushey TV. He shot to fame with his work in Humayun Ahmed's Eid drama 'Poka'.
Rubel was praised for his work in Humayun's 'Atithi', 'Nil Toyale' 'Bishesh Ghoshona', 'Sobai Gechhe Bone', 'Brikkho Manob', and 'Jamunar Jol Dekhte Kalo'.
