The Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of the ICT Division of the government will organize the National IT Competition 2024 for Youth with Disabilities for the 8th time on Saturday (11 May 2024).
The day-long contest will be held in collaboration with the Centre for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) on Saturday from 8:45 am to 6:00 pm at the BUBT campus located at Mirpur Rupnagar in the capital Dhaka, according to a press release.
123 contestants from all over the country will participate in the competition in total 4 categories of disabilities. The categories of the competition are: a. Visually impaired b. Physically handicapped c. Speech and hearing impaired and d. Neuro-Developmental Disability (NDD). Contestants in all categories will compete in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet and Programming (Scratch) where the top 3 in each category will be awarded.
The top 4 contestants from the 4 categories will get an opportunity to participate in the international competition to be held in the Philippines in October 2024.
It is to be noted that in the evening of May 11, 2024, Secretary of ICT Division Mr. Md. Samsul Arefin will be present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the said competition.
Meanwhile, the preparations for the competition have nearly ended. Mr. Ranajit Kumar, Executive Director (Grade-1) of Bangladesh Computer Council, thinks that it is possible to greatly expand ICT practice among young disabled people through this competition. Mr. Golam Rabbani, the contest's coordinator and BCC's Manager (Systems), believes that the current government's commitment will be very useful in preparing persons with disabilities as competent and skilled human resources for Smart Bangladesh by 2041.
