The Ministry of Public Administration has promoted Finance Division Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rahman Khan to the post of Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division (FID).
According to a notification issued yesterday (16 May), his appointment is set to come into effect from 19 May 2024.
Abdur Rahman Khan is currently working as the head of the Administration and Treasury and Debt Management Wing of the Finance Division.
Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, the current Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, is scheduled to go on post-retirement leave (PRL) on 19 May 2024, the notification added.
Abdur Rahman Khan served the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) as the organization's President earlier. He was also Director of Bangladesh Data Center Company Limited and was a member in the board of governors in Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) and SME Foundation.
Abdur Rahman Khan began his professional career as an Assistant Commissioner of Taxes under Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and later on he held different important posts in the government including First Secretary (Tax Policy) of National Board of Revenue (NBR). Abdur Rahman Khan also worked for the United Nations as an Adviser and the World Bank as a consultant from 2004 to 2011.
Abdur Rahman Khan acquired B.Com (Honors) and M.Com degrees from Chittagong University and obtained another MA degree from University of Ulster, United Kingdom. Moreover, he attended different professional training programs in reputed institutions in Australia, Japan and the United States.
Abdur Rahman Khan is well-known among his colleagues and in the financial administrative arena as a competent, learned and honest official. Economists have expressed hope that under the supervision of Abdur Rahman Khan, the banks and financial institutions of Bangladesh will be able to overcome their existing drawbacks and the country's economic progress will be further expedited.
