Masked gangsters attack East West Media Group
A group of miscreants vandalised the East West Media Group, a subsidiary of the Bashundhara Group, in the capital on Monday. -Agency
Unidentified attackers assailed and smashed the glass doors and windows of East West Media Group office in Bashundhara residential area of the capital on Monday afternoon (19 August 2024). East West Media Group belongs to the Bashundhara business conglomerate.
A group of gangsters equipped with fatal weapons broke into the media house at around 2:45pm and vandalized whatever they could lay their hands on. The attackers first entered the Radio Capital office and rummaged the official properties including interior decoration, furniture, laptops, computers and transmission machineries.
The Bashundhara media complex accommodates two Bengali daily newspapers-- Kaler Kantho and Bangladesh Protidin, an English newspaper Daily Sun, an online news portal banglanews24.com, News 24, and T Sports-- a Bangladeshi Bengali-language sports oriented television channel -- are located in three adjacent buildings of East West Media Group. The hooligans also vandalized over 25 cars and motorcycles parked inside the media complex.
The trespassers could not be instantly identified as some of them were wearing masks, said an official belonging to East West Media Group.
Meanwhile, in a quick response Abu Baker Majumder, one of the student coordinators currently in Rangpur, said that there is no connection between the Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement and the hoodlums that launched this assault on Bashundhara Group's media outlets.
