The interim government has appointed former Senior Secretary Dr. M Aslam Alam as the new Chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA).
The Ministry of Finance issued a circular in this regard on Monday (9 September 2024).
Dr. M Aslam Alam has been appointed on a contractual basis for a three-year term or until he turns 68 years old. The post of IDRA's chairman became vacant following Mohammad Jainul Bari's resignation from the Chairman post of IDRA on 5 September 2024.
Mohammad Jainul Bari was made Chairman of IDRA in June 2022 for a three-year term.
Dr. M Aslam Alam is the 10th Chairman of IDRA. It may be recalled that Dr. M Aslam Alam was appointed in the post of Secretary, Financial Institutions Division in November 2012. Dr. M Aslam Alam was shifted to the post of an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) following the cyber heist on Bangladesh Bank's reserves in March 2016.
Later on Dr. M Aslam Alam was placed in the echelon of Rector, Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC) in May 2017 where he held the organization's highest post till July 2019.
