Ashik Chowdhury appointed as BIDA Executive Chairman
 
Ashik Chowdhury has been appointed as the new Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) for a two-year term. The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification on Thursday to this end.

According to the notification, Ashik Chowdhury has been designated as the Executive Chairman of BIDA with the position of senior secretary, subject to renouncing his affiliations with other organizations and institutions. Further terms of his appointment will be specified in the approved contract.

Before joining BIDA, Ashik Chowdhury an Associate Director in the Real Asset Finance Department of the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Singapore. Ashik Chowdhury took a long training on skydiving under the Thai Sky Adventure Company. He received his license last year. With this license, he can skydive in any country of the world without the help of others.

On May 25, Ashik Chowdhury made a world record by jumping from a plane flying at 41,795 feet height in Memphis, USA. Ashik Chowdhury's hometown is Chandpur, but he grew up in Jessore due to his father's job. He attended school at Sylhet Cadet College. After that he completed his BSC from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University.

Earlier, Lokman Hossain Miah was the Executive Chairman of BIDA. Lokman Hossain Miah joined BIDA as Executive Chairman in September 2022. The government terminated his appointment on 14 August 2024 after the interim government took charge following the downfall of the immediate past ruling party Awami League and the escape of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Bangladesh to India.
