Well-known Content Creator Ashraful Alam Plants 1,000 Fruit Trees in the Village
Farmers and agricultural resources are the main driving force behind agrarian Bangladesh. Ashraful Alam, a content creator focused on the environment, travel, and aviation issues. Recently, he planted one thousand fruit trees in his village as part of an initiative to restore the agricultural resources for local peoples at post-flood period. In Dashany Tobga village of Chatkhil Upazila, Noakhali, the planting and distribution event were organized on 9th of this calendar month with Mango, Jackfruit, Guava, Cashew Nut, Lemon, and other trees. Mission Green Bangladesh and SMS Environmental Alliance collaborated on this program.

Ashraful Alam, the content creator behind the platform ‘Go with Ashraful Alam,’ said, “Fruit trees not only give us oxygen to survive, but also provides essential vitamins as well as source of income through fruit sales.” He further explained that the oxygen we do breathe which is totally free that comes from our nature, otherwise we’ve to spend a significant digit of money in hospitals every year. “We don’t have to pay single penny for the oxygen that we frequently consume while we spend money on many things for surviving our daily lives. In our society, some of dignified individuals have planted trees by their own endeavor that mass people inhale their fresh breath with clean air. So, let’s start supplying our own oxygen and vitamins from today.”

Md. Moksed Mia, Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension, Chatkhil Upazila welcomed the tree planting program and said that the post-flood tree planting program will play a vital role for maintaining the green balance in the area as there has been extensive loss of vegetation due to the flood.

Mission Green Bangladesh convener Ahsan Rony shared his thoughts on the tree planting and distribution effort: “We’d like to make the entire country green. If the country is green, the risk of climate change will be reduced significantly, and our country will regain its lost form. We could see a green, flourishing Bangladesh again, and be able to breathe in fresh air.”

Saleh Ahmed Sumon, a village social worker and ex-councilor of Dashany Tobga village (Ward No. 7), said, “The recent floods have destroyed the forests and fruit trees in our neighborhoods and nurseries, so it is crucial to plant trees with renewed vigor at this moment. Also, with fruit prices skyrocketing, many people can no longer afford the vitamins that fruits provide. The only solution is to plant fruit trees in the courtyards of our homes. By planting these one thousand fruit trees in our village, we will not only meet the villagers' needs but also provide much-needed oxygen.”

Incidentally, every year, rising temperatures and the effects of global warming impact both urban and rural areas. The efforts in rural areas remain insufficient while urban areas have been implementing various programs to tackle these challenges. Environmental and climate scientists believe that planting a large number of trees can help reduce heat, whether for cooling the environment or for providing access to fruit.

It’s worth noting that last week, Ashraful Alam planted five hundred palm seeds in his own village. In addition, a few days ago, he planted five hundred Neem trees in Dhaka city and taking regular care to ensure their growth.
