No Place for drugs in the university - BAU VC

The university administration is in a strong position against drugs. We will make dope tests mandatory not only for student admissions but also for teacher recruitment. Drugs have no place in the university.’

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan said these things while addressing the anti-drug awareness meeting organized by Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) as the chief guest to raise awareness among students against drugs.

The seminar was held at the BAU Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium at the initiative of Bangladesh Police Mymensingh Range on Thursday (November 21) at 11 am. The main discussant at the event was Bangladesh Police, Mymensingh Range DIG Dr. Md. Ashrafur Rahman and the special discussant was the Superintendent of Police, Md. Azizul Islam.

The event was presided over by the Proctor of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, the chief guest. The special guests were the Convener of the Dean's Council of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rabbani, Students' Affairs Advisor, Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Coordinator of the Higher Education and Research Committee, Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, and the Convener of the Provost Council, Professor Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin.

DIG Dr. Md. Ashrafur Rahman presented various documentaries and slides that addressed the causes of drug addiction, its social implications, the effects of drug use, legal consequences, prevention strategies, and various aspects of recovery. In his role as the main discussant, he stated, "Bangladesh ranks fifth in the world for money laundering through drug trafficking. The number of drug addicts is particularly high among teenagers and young adults aged 15 to 30.

This is why we have gathered at the university; a social movement is necessary to combat this dangerous issue of drug abuse." After that the DIG made everyone present to take an oath against drugs.

Superintendent of Police Mr. Md. Azizul Islam said, Bangladesh Police is always trying to bring drug users, drug dealers, drug producers, drug dealers and people earning illegal money through business under the law.
