In protest against the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, the Chittagong District Lawyers' Association to observe a boycott of courts on Thursday.
These decision was announced in a special circular signed by Chittagong District Bar Association President Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury and General Secretary Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak on Wednesday (November 27) afternoon.
On the occasion, a Dua Mahfil was organized at Court Hill Jama Masjid to seek the salvation of the departed soul of Alif.
Advocate Nazim Uddin, president of the lawyers' association, said one of their colleagues was brutally beaten and hacked to death, blaming Iskcon followers for it. "In protest, we have organizationally decided to boycott the courts."
To mention, on Tuesday, a clash erupted in the court area in Chittagong following the rejection of a bail plea for Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Sanatan Jagaran Jot and a former Iskcon leader. His followers clashed with law enforcement, and at one point during the violence, lawyer Saiful Islam was taken away from the court premises and hacked to death.
Saiful Islam Alif was a resident of the Chunati area in Lohagara upazila. He became a member of the district lawyers' association in 2018 and later registered as a lawyer at the High Court.
To mention, since Tuesday afternoon, security forces conducted operations in the port city, detaining over 30 individuals.
