Remittance increased 26  percent in Cumilla

The flow of remittances in Cumilla has increased by 26% compared to the same period last year, said Rehanur Islam, deputy director of Cumilla District Employment and Manpower Office.

He came up with the remarks while addressing the local journalists at the fair in the district organized marking the National Expatriates Day.
According to the report of Bangladesh Bank, the remittance (foreign currency) coming into Cumilla district has increased by more than 26 percent compared to the last year.

Rehanur Islam said, "This year, about 100,000 workers from all over Bangladesh have gone abroad as workers. As of last November, 91,300 people have gone abroad. The flow of foreign currency has increased this year due to people going abroad after becoming skilled in various jobs and sending remittances through legal means.

In addition, people are sending remittances in large quantities after the July-August protests." According to the District Manpower Employment and Training Bureau, 1,350,068 migrant workers from Cumilla have gone abroad from 2004 to November 2024.

Speaking the occasion, Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md. Amirul Kaisar said, "The migrant workers of Cumilla are making a huge contribution to make country developed through sending remittances."

He said, "The expatriates are an integral part of the country, and they have been playing a key role in accelerating the wheels of the economy."
