The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) observed the Border Guard Bangladesh Day-2024 in a limited format with due solemnity.
Following the death of AF Hasan Ariff, Adviser to the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the interim government declared a day of national mourning on 23 December. The national flag was flown at half-mast at BGB Headquarters and a one-minute silence was observed as per day events.
According to a press release issued by BGB, the programs began at 6:30 AM with the hoisting of the flag by the Director General of BGB Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui. At 6:50 AM, the Director General placed a wreath at "Simanta Gaurav" in Pilkhana to pay tribute to the valiant martyrs of the Liberation War.
Marking this day, an awards and recognition ceremony was held at the BGB headquarters at 11:00 am. During the event, Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.), Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Agriculture, attended as the chief guest. He conferred medals on 33 BGB personnel for their outstanding contributions.
This year, 72 BGB members were honored with various medals, including 12 Border Guard Bangladesh Medals (BGBM), 24 President Border Guard Medals (PBGM), 12 Border Guard Bangladesh Service Medals (BGBMS) and 24 President Border Guard Service Medals (PBGMS).
