Southeast Bank hold Shariah Supervisory meeting

The 72nd meeting of the Shariah SupervisoryCommittee of Southeast Bank PLC. was held on December 24, 2024. The meeting waspresided over by the Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Committee, Mufti ShahMohammad Habibullah Mahmud Quasemi.

Members of the Shariah Supervisory Committee, Dr.Muhammad Haidar Ali Akon, Mr. M. A. Kashem,         Mr. Alamgir Kabir, FCA, Mr. Azim UddinAhmed, Mr. Md. Nurul Islam (Nominee of Single Click IT Solutions PrivateLimited), and Mr. Nuruddin Md. Sadeque Hossain, Managing Director of SoutheastBank PLC., participated in the meeting.

The meeting conducted an in-depth review of theperformance of the Bank's Islamic branches, such as deposit mobilization,investment operations, and customer service processes. The SupervisoryCommittee expressed satisfaction with these activities and provided essentialguidance to maintain the branches' consistent success.

Discussions were also held regarding the overallactivities and action plans of the Islamic Service Desks (ISD) established in130 conventional branches to extend Shariah-based Islamic banking services tothe customers. The committee provided special directives to enhance the qualityof these services and recommended increasing training and monitoring ofbranches to ensure Shariah-compliant services for customers.

The proposed “Islamic Bank Company Act-2024” wasdiscussed in detail during the meeting. Various sections of the law werereviewed, and the committee provided opinions on submitting an application tothe relevant authorities for necessary amendments and revisions.

The committee also discussed future action plans,focusing on developing new Shariah-based products and evaluating theeffectiveness of existing ones. The Shariah Supervisory Committee urged strictadherence to Shariah principles and reiterated its commitment to ensuringreliable and Shariah-compliant services for the bank's customers.

The meeting expressed a commitment to unveiling newhorizons in Islamic banking operations on the occasion of Southeast Bank's 30thanniversary in 2025.
