Driver, helper of truck that crushed fire-fighter Nayan sent to jail
 
A Dhaka court on Thursday sent to jail Belal Hossain Sumon, 36, and Farhad, 20, driver and helper respectively of the truck that crushed firefighter Sohanur Zaman Nayan while he was attempting to douse the devastating fire at the Secretariat.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman passed the order, as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to keep them behind bars until the end of the probe in the case, BSS reports.

According to the case documents, the fire broke out in building number 7 of the Secretariat at 1.52 am. Members of the Fire Service and the Civil Defence reached the spot within two minutes after the fire broke out and Nayan along with his colleagues started to their action to douse the flame.

As Nayan was crossing the road with a water pipe to connect it with a fire engine, the speedy truck rammed and crushed him, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

The onlookers, on the other hand, managed to apprehend Sumon and Farhad as they tried to flee the scene and handed them over to police.

Fire Service and Civil Defence employee Ruhul Amin Mollah filed the case under the Road Transport Act.
