Ctg elevated expressway renamed; toll collection begins

The toll collection on Chattogram's first elevated expressway officially commenced on Friday.

Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, inaugurated the toll collection system during a ceremony held at the Patenga end of the expressway.

During the event, Mahfuzur Rahman, Project Director and Executive Engineer of the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), announced that four toll booths had been installed at the Patenga end to streamline the toll collection process.

He also mentioned that the expressway is open to ten types of vehicles, excluding motorcycles and trailers.
Toll rates range from Tk30 for CNG-run autorickshaws to Tk450 for covered vans.

Other vehicle categories are charged as follows: Tk80 for cars, Tk100 for jeeps and microbuses, Tk150 for pickups, Tk200 for minibuses and four-wheeled trucks, Tk280 for buses, and Tk300 for six-wheeled trucks.On Thursday, the name of the Chittagong Elevated Expressway had been changed to honour Wasim Akram, who was martyred in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Previously, it was named after the late mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, who was also the president of the Metropolitan Awami League.

Spanning 16 kilometres from Lalkhan Bazar to Patenga, the expressway was constructed by the CDA at a cost of Tk4,298.95 crore.

The project aims to enhance connectivity and stimulate the regional economy.
