Furious people and leaders of Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement torched the households belonging to ousted ruling party Awami League's General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday at Companyganj upazila under Noakhali district. At the same time houses owned by Obaidul Quader's brothers Abdul Quader Mirza, Fazlul Quader Mintu and Shahadat Hossain were also vandalized and set ablaze.
The assailants chanted heated anti Awami League slogans at that time. Ariful Islam, Convener of Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement, Noakhali district, said "All dens and hideouts of the overthrown fascists are being demolished. We want to warn the interim government that these students and masses have placed you in power. So, the interim government's advisers must be able to read the pulse of the demonstrators who unseated Sheikh Hasina and her party from power".
Ariful Islam further said, "Why is the interim government taking so much time to prosecute the fascists who killed students and innocent people during the July uprising? Police personnel shot down protesters in broad daylight. These pictures and documentaries have gone viral on social media, newspapers and television channels.
If the interim government fails to crack down hard on Awami League, we will take a firm stance against the present ruling authorities."
Leaders and activists of Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement have said that Obaidul Quader was the mastermind of the killings and torment that was hammered on demonstrators while the July 2024 mass upsurge was going on. Obaidul Quader escaped from Bangladesh like ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina but they are provoking their gangsters to trigger violence and false propaganda to destabilize Bangladesh, Ariful Islam complained.
