We should popularize buffalo meat: Farida Akhter
Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter joins a workshop on buffalo farming in the capital as chief guest on Sunday organized by Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute.     -AA

The interim government's Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said that initiatives need to be taken to popularize buffalo meat because buffalo meat contains very less quantity of cholesterol. Farida Akhter further said that buffalos are assets for Bangladesh and the cattle farmers who work with buffalos are vital for the country's livestock sector.

Farida Akhter stated that buffalo milk is widely used for making yoghurt. She laid emphasis on gathering facts and figures about buffalo farmers from the grassroots and conducting research work on this point. Farida Akhter made the above comments while addressing a workshop on buffalos organized by Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) in the capital on Sunday as the chief guest.

Farida Akhter pointed out that buffalos need to be properly treated and taken care of keeping in view the existing world heavily impacted by climate change. She termed buffalos as victims of discrimination and said that strong measures are required to encourage people and farmers to look after buffalos with great importance.

 Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Agriculture University, Mymensingh Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) Dr. Nazmun Nahar Karim and Livestock Division Director General Dr. Md. Abu Sufian expressed their views at the workshop as special guests. It was presided over by BLRI Director General Dr. Shakila Faruque.
