Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has cautioned political parties against manipulating elections, warning that such tactics might yield short-term gains but ultimately stoke disastrous consequences.

Addressing a discussion on National Voters' Day at the Election Building in Agargaon on Sunday, the CEC said: "History bears witness-by engaging in election engineering, by terrorising the vote, you may secure victory momentarily."

"But in the end, it can bring disaster for yourself, for your party, and for the country. Ultimately, you cannot survive." Calling for free and fair elections, he urged all stakeholders to resist any temptation to interfere with the voting process.

"My hope is that no one will resort to such measures. We are standing by the 180 million people [of Bangladesh] with all our might," he said.

Confirming that all kinds of preparations will be made for the 13th parliamentary elections, the CEC said: "I appeal to the 180 million citizens-stand with us. We are fighting to secure your rights."

"We are on the warpath. We are moving forward with great difficulty within a very limited time period."
