Bangladesh and India conduct joint naval  exercise at Bay of Bengal

Personnel Bangladesh Navy and Indian Navy started off a joint patrolling exercise and fourth bilateral drill at Bay of Bengal from 10 March 2025 (Monday). These two joint exercises are named Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) and BONGOSAGOR. These exercises are being supervised by Commander Flotilla West. It will end on 12 March 2025.

Bangladesh Navy frigate BNS Abu Ubaidah and a maritime patrol aircraft have participated in these exercises. On the other hand, Indian Navy frigate INS Ranvir and an Indian helicopter have joined these drills, according to a press release from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued on Monday.

Naval forces of Bangladesh and India have been doing these joint patrolling exercises since 2018. These drills by Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy aim at curbing illegal activities in the two countries' maritime zones like unauthorized fishing, smuggling, human trafficking, piracy and peddling narcotics. At the same time it is being expected that these joint works will further bolster the maritime affiliations between Bangladesh and India, enhance the safety of marine resources for both countries and brighten the prospects of blue economy, the press release concludes.
