Bengali daily newspaper Jai Jai Din's declaration nullified

The interim government has voided the publication declaration of Bengali daily newspaper Jai Jai Din on charges of violating publication rules. Following a complaint from the newspaper's former Editor Shafik Rehman, Dhaka District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tanvir Ahmed issued the order on 10 March 2025.

The information was confirmed on Wednesday (12 March 2025) by Nusrat Naushin, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Publication and Printing Division) at the Dhaka District Commissioner's Office.

According to the office order, the newspaper was not being printed at its approved press, despite providing false information in its printer's line. In response to Shafik Rehman's allegations, a show-cause notice was issued and required inquiries were carried out. As the verification report was submitted to the authorities concerned, the publication declaration was nullified.

The decision was made under Section 10 of the Printing Presses and Publications (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973, as the newspaper breached the provisions of the statutory law. As a result, the declaration under the name of Daily Jai Jai Din publisher and printer, Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, has been repealed.
