Bangladesh Navy Ship BNS Durjoy detained 214 illegal immigrants from Bay of Bengal maritime zone while the detainees were travelling to foreign countries without proper documents. These 214 detained people included Myanmar refugees. BNS Durjoy got hold of these unauthorized travelers while patrolling on the sea on Tuesday. All these detainees were trying to sail into Malaysia unlawfully, according to a press release from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The ISPR press release describes that BNS Durjoy noticed the suspicious movement of a fishing boat 44 nautical miles southwest of St. Martin's Island. Bangladesh Navy instantly blocked the forward movement of the fishing boat and raided the trawler. Bangladesh Navy personnel nabbed 214 people from the fishing boat who had no travel documents at all including 118 men, 68 women and 28 children.
All the detained individuals were ousted from their homeland Myanmar reportedly. All the detainees have been handed over to the local Bangladesh Coast Guard station, the ISPR press release mentioned.
The ISPR press release added that the fishing boat would have faced severe crisis of water and acute food shortage in middle of the sea if it was not stopped by Bangladesh Navy.
