Founder of Special Olympics Bangladesh (SOB) and former SOB Chairman Ashraf Dawla passed away in the United States of America on Thursday (10 April 2025) aged 89. He was undergoing medical treatment with certain old age complications.
Ashraf Dawla founded Special Olympics Bangladesh in 1993 and he contributed massively in the inclusion of mentally challenged boys and girls in the country’s sports arena. Ashraf Dawla was awarded National Sports Prize in 1996.
President of Bangladesh Olympic Association Chief of Staff of Bangladesh Army General Waker Uz Zaman stated his profound shock at Ashraf Dawla’s demise.
Higher officials of Special Olympics Bangladesh including SOB board of directors have expressed their grief at the demise of Ashraf Dawla. Shoeb Chowdhury, Chairman, Editorial Board of The Asian Age has also extended deep condolences over Ashraf Dawla’s death.
