Sohel Rana says goodbye to acting, politics

Veteran Dhallywood actor Sohel Rana has announced retirement from acting and politics.

79-year-old legendary actor said, "I started my journey as an actor in 1973. Due to my old age and physical condition, it is not possible to continue working. For this reason, I have decided to quit acting and politics."

Throughout his career, Sohel Rana appeared in over 300 films and received multiple accolades, including the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor for "Ajante" (1996) and Best Supporting Actor for "Sahoshi Manush Chai" (2003). He was honoured with the National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2019.

In addition to his contributions to cinema, Rana was active in politics, serving as a presidium member of the Jatiya Party.

Expressing disappointment with the state of the local film industry, Sohel Rana said, "Cinema has changed. Our generation no longer fits with today's trends. Unlike in foreign films, where older actors are given meaningful roles, here we're limited to stereotypical parts like parents or uncles-often without room to truly perform. I'd rather step away with the love and respect I've earned."
