No election without justice, reforms: Jamaat Ameer

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman declared that the people of Bangladesh will not accept any future elections unless two key conditions are met; justice for the killers and essential electoral and political reforms.

Speaking as the chief guest at a mass rally held at Lalmonirhat Collectorate Ground on Saturday, Dr. Rahman emphasized that justice for past political killings must be visible and tangible.

In addition, he stressed the need for structural reforms to ensure credible elections. Addressing the Chief Adviser of interim government, he stated, "We want a fair election, not one dominated by black money or muscle power. For that, a level playing field is absolutely essential." 

On the topic of foreign relations, particularly with India, the Jamaat leader called for a relationship based on mutual respect, harmony and equality. "If we are well, our neighbours will be well too. But if our well-being is compromised, India must ask itself whether it can thrive either," he warned.

Dr. Rahman also took aim at remnants of the past authoritarian regime, stating, "Though fascism may have fallen, a few corrupt political elements continue their extortion and land-grabbing activities."

Pledging greater respect, security and employment opportunities for women under a Jamaat-led government, he also made commitments regarding regional development.

Notably, he promised full implementation of the long-awaited Teesta Master Plan and other initiatives aimed at socio-economic upliftment of Lalmonirhat.
The rally, presided over by district Jamaat Ameer Advocate Abu Taher, was attended by several central and local leaders of the party, who also addressed the gathering.

Supporters from various upazilas and neighbouring districts marched to the venue early in the morning, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.A separate venue was arranged with a large screen for women attendees, highlighting the scale and inclusive nature
of the event.
