A daylong event titled Healthy City Fair was held on Saturday at Shaheed Hadis Park, with the goal of promoting health awareness and advancing efforts to transform Khulna into a healthier and more liveable city.
Jointly organized by World Health Organization (WHO), SIAM, NCDC, BCCP, local NGOs and Khulna City Corporation (KCC), the fair attracted a wide range of participants and stakeholders.
Md Firoz Sarkar, Divisional Commissioner and Administrator of KCC, officially inaugurated the fair as chief guest. In his speech, he stressed the vital role of community involvement in shaping a healthier future for Khulna.
"To achieve a truly healthy city, we must shift public attitudes towards health and wellness. This fair is an important step in that direction, and I encourage regular hosting of such initiatives," Sarkar stated. He also urged organizers to expand future editions of the fair by increasing the number of participating stalls.
The day's activities began with a 7.5-kilometer marathon, inaugurated by Abu Sayeed Md. Monjur Alam, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Development).
The race began and ended at Shaheed Hadis Park, passing through key city landmarks such as Rupsha area and PTI intersection.
A total of 150 runners from various professional and social backgrounds took part, representing a unified push towards healthier urban living.
Distinguished guests at the event included KCC Chief Executive Officer Laskar Tajul Islam, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Md. Abu Rayhan Muhammad Saleh, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Saikat Md. Rezwanul Haque, WHO Program Officer Asif Ahmed and SIAM Executive Director Advocate Md. Masum Billah.
