LDA urges government to clarify stance over hostility towards women

Leaders and activists of the Leftist Democratic Alliance (LDA) carried out a demonstration and a rally in front of the capital's National Press Club on Wednesday (7 May 2025). LDA Coordinator and Bangladesh Biplobi Communist League General Secretary Iqbal Kabir Jahid presided over the rally.

General Secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal or BSD (Marxist) Central Coordinator Masud Rana, Gonotantrik Biplobi Party General Secretary Moshrefa Mishu, BSD central committee member Shampa Basu, BSD Executive President Abdul Ali, CPB President Comrade Shah Alam and BSD General Secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz addressed the rally.

All the speakers reiterated their strong condemnation over Hefazat-E-Islam leaders' recent disrespectful comments on women. The rally was moderated by Bangladesh Biplobi Communist League presidium member Nazrul Islam.

The LDA leaders requested the interim government to immediately clarify the ruling authorities' stance on the insulting and vulgar remarks on women coming from some theocratic political parties. The government should publish a press note without delay explaining their thoughts on the religious bigots' hostile approach to women, according to a press release received from Bangladesh Biplobi Communist League yesterday.
