NCP leaders, student coordinators attacked in Ashulia

Miscreants have attacked a few leaders of the workers wing of National Citizens Party (NCP) and some student coordinators at Ashulia in Savar. The attack took place on Wednesday night at around 12:30 am. The victims have complained that they were assaulted when they attempted to shut down an illegal lead factory.

Eight people were wounded during the attack. Three of the victims have been admitted in Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar. These three individuals are Rifat Ahmed alias Emon (27), student coordinator Tawhidul Islam Sunvy (23) and student vice coordinator Hridoy Hasan (24).

The rest of the people who sustained injuries are Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement joint convener in Savar upazila Obaidul Islam (25), student spokesman Al Masum Sajeeb (26), Fahadul Islam (29), Syed Imon (24) and Member Secretary Tawhid Ahmed Shanto (24). They received first aid at Savar Upazila Health Complex. Local sources have informed that the above NCP leaders and student coordinators visited a lead factory at Shimulia area in Ashulia on Wednesday night. At that time a group of assailants equipped with sharp weapons swooped on them.

People who run the illegal lead factory have said that they pay bribes to a local student coordinator named Asadul Islam Mukul on a regular basis but Asadul Islam Mukul has denied this allegation. He added that he is not associated with the above-mentioned factory.

Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station said on Thursday "Police force rushed to the spot last night and rescued the wounded guys. We have not yet received any official complaints from anyone. We will investigate the occurrence and will take necessary action as soon as allegations are filed with us following the right procedure."
