Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders have expressed anger over the lack of clear stance from Dhaka University (DU) and the interim government over the murder of Chhatra Dal activist Shahriar Alam Shammo. Chhatra Dal leaders have threatened that they would blockade State Guest House Jamuna if the murderers of Shahriar Alam Shammo are not brought to book immediately. At the same time Chhatra Dal leaders have urged the DU authorities and the government to clarify what steps have been taken to arrest the killers.
Chhatra Dal leaders warned that nobody can stop them if they decide to march towards the Chief Adviser's residence at State Guest House Jamuna. Chhatra Dal leaders and activists blockaded the Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka city on Sunday for around two hours protesting inactivity from DU administration and the concerned ministries over detaining the killers of Shahriar Alam Shammo. Chhatra Dal leaders blamed the Home Adviser, DU Vice Chancellor and Proctor for not taking any visible measures to nab the culprits who killed Shahriar Alam Shammo.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam said that the interim government did not say a single consolatory word to sympathize with a murdered private university student Parvez's parents. Rakibul Islam said that hundreds of leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal were killed and subjected to enforced disappearances while ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in power from 2009 to 2024. Rakibul Islam criticized Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for not showing compassion to the bereaved families of murdered or disappeared Chhatra Dal members.
Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin said that JCD leaders and activists have been victims of premeditated murders since 5 August 2024. Nasir Uddin also slammed the law and order forces for beating up students of Jagannath University.
According to Nasir Uddin, both the Home Ministry and Dhaka University have failed to crack down on killers and fascist agents left behind by the overthrown autocratic regime.
