BUFT observes World Environment Day with various events

The BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) observed World Environment Day 2025 with a two-day programs held on 24-25 May 2025, led by the Department of Environmental Science in affiliation with the BUFT Science & Environmental Club, under the global theme "Ending Plastic Pollution."

According to a press release, the events began with an awareness rally and clean-up campaign, drawing participation from students, teachers and senior officials, including Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan; Treasurer Professor Md. Alamgir Hossain; Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Textile Engineering; Professor Dr. Sirajul Karim Choudhury, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Studies; Dr. Md. Mohibul Islam Khan, Head of the Department of Natural Science; and Dr. Mohammad Shohrab Hossain Sarker, Head of the Department of Environmental Science. Participants marched through the BUFT campus and surrounding areas, concluding with a clean-up drive along the Turag River, where volunteers collected plastic wastes and raised awareness among local communities about sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

 A seminar titled "Empowering the Next Generation to Beat Plastic Pollution" was held on the second day. The programs also included a cultural rendition, Green Corner exhibition, and a prize-giving ceremony honoring winners of the student write-up competition. The celebration concluded with a collective pledge to reduce single-use plastics and promote environmentally responsible living with emphasis on BUFT's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, the press release concludes.
