BB Governor's frequent foreign trips exceed previous records!

BB Governor's frequent foreign trips exceed previous records!

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur has visited a broad number of foreign countries and spent 65 days abroad after taking over the highest position in the central bank on 14 August 2024.

Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur triggered panic among general depositors after taking charge with some of his statements in press conferences and seminars. He said that 10 banks have become bankrupt. He further said some banks cannot sustain themselves and suggested depositors not to withdraw high amounts of cash at a time from banks. Dr. Ahsan H Mansur's announcement to merge six banks by July 2025 has also generated confusion and ambiguity.

Former Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) Toufique Ahmed Choudhury said that negative comments from the central bank's Governor terrify common citizens. The Governor should never say which banks are going bankrupt. These are confidential things and these remarks jolt people's confidence on the banking system, Toufique Ahmed Choudhury further said.

Bangladesh Bank (BB), during last 10 months, printed out more than BDT 22 thousand crore to financially back up ailing banks but still critical predicaments in a lot of banks could not be eliminated. Financial experts have called upon Dr. Ahsan H Mansur to abstain from issuing unrestrained and inconsistent verbal elaborations in public.

BB Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur visited India, Singapore, Thailand, USA, South Korea, Djibouti, Japan, United Kingdom and Dubai during last 10 months. These travel stories have crossed the history of foreign tours of previous Bangladesh Bank Governors reportedly.

Bangladesh Bank has not been yet able to retrieve a single penny from siphoned off funds laundered abroad. The central bank's performance in recovery of defaulted loans is not satisfactory either. Under these circumstances, Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur's foreign trips one after another again and again spending money from state funds on a massive scale have drawn criticism from erudite scholars and conscious citizens.
